I woke up this morning to discover that "Sleep, Baby, Sleep" was chosen as the Picture of the Day in the Black & White category at DigitalImageCafe. That makes two accoaldes this week from Sweet Anna's newborn session! Congratulations Anna and proud mommy Suzanne. And many thanks to Lori without whom I wouldn't have been able to get these precious pictures!



As a follow-up, Lily's "gimme-gimme-gimme that" image went on to win second place in the BetterPhoto July contest. Good job, Lily!

I'm thrilled that "Seduction" was chosen as Picture of the Day today in the Digital Art cagegory at Digital Image Cafe. This was taken the first year I became interested in photography (2004) with my -- I mean my husband's -- digital camera. I had no idea what an f-stop was or ISO and certainly didn't understand anything about manual mode on a camera. So, the original image is pretty bad! A few years later -- when I'd learned photoshop a little better -- I was able to pull more information out of it but it was still pretty bad. Corel Painter to the rescue! I LOVE that program ... just don't have the time to work in it like I want to.

Yipee! Another win today at the Digital Image Cafe! This one was chosen as Picture of the Day in the People Category. It really isn't that easy to win these POTDs! I'm just having a very good summer!

Yeah! After a long, dry spell with no time to enter online contests, I've really had fun winning a few of them this month. Guess it will all end soon when I have to add my "day job" back to my schedule. However, I do get up every morning and thank the Good Lord that I have a day job! Anyway, anyone who has been to my house has met my neighbor's cat, Crazy Cat. He's a wonderful cat but not sure where he belongs as it seems everyone in the neighborhood loves him. This one was chosen as Picture of the Day at the Digital Image Cafe in the Animal Category today:

Woo hoo! A double "win" today with two pictures chosen for POTD at two different sites.

"Ready" was taken at the little white chapel at The Waters recently while on a bridal portrait session. It was chosen as Picture of the Day at the Digital Image Cafe in the Still Life category.





This is the second accolade for sweet Lily's portrait! This time at BetterPhoto.com.

It's Somebody's Birthday Update

When Addie's mom uploaded this image to her blog a friend said, "This should win an award." It did! It was chosen as the Picture of the Day at the Digital Image Cafe today in the People Category.

Maggie Named a Finalist

This image of cute little Maggie was named as a finalist today in BetterPhoto.com's monthly competition. See her little teeth showing like she's saying "cheese!" Over 19,000 images were entered last month, so it is quite an honor to be among the finalists in the "animals" category.



The judges will select the top images over the next few days. While I love this image and am very proud of it, I will be very surprised if it makes it into the top group. When judges are faced with images that have equal technical merit, they will often - and rightly so - choose the image that was more difficult to capture. There are some amazing images of eagles, coyotes, wolves, alligators, etc. that are competing against this cute little girl. It's very hard for a studio shot to win over a gorgeous image of giraffes with their necks wrapped around each other in front of a setting sun with dust from the savanna vignetting them! So I'll hope for the best, but am just very proud that we're a finalist.

I was thrilled to have "Kate" chosen as the Picture of the Month in the People Category at Digital Image Cafe for December.


I actually had two Pictures of the Day in December, but just didn't have an opportunity to post them.
Both "Kate" and "Cowboy" won in the People Category.

On the Menu Today

Woo Hoo! One of the pictures I took at Buena Vista last week just won a Picture of the Day in the people category at Digital Image Cafe! The Cafe is a fun and informative online community of photographers working together to hone our skills.

This is the second time Sophie has won me a POTD at the Cafe! She's an irresistible little lady!

MPPA Print Competition 2008

Once each year, the Montgomery Professional Photography Association holds a print competition for students, amateurs and professional photographers. The prints are displayed at the Alabama State Fair in October. The annual competition was held yesterday. I was very honored to receive the following awards:




Several friends and photography associates won in the amateur and professional division. I'm particularly proud of associate Lori Mercer (many of you have met her as the second shooter at weddings) for winning first place in the children's portraits in the professional division.

Best of Class - Photographing Children

I recently completed an online course on Photographing Children through Better Photo. I received word today that I had been chosen "Best of Class" by my fellow students.
