Got Grandkids?

This is from Fathers' Day -- I forgot I had them. My husband wanted to take this for his brother. (You know how competitive brothers are!!) The point is that Gordon has 3 grandchildren and 1 more on the way (note ultrasound photo in G's hand). So, Gerald - this one's for you :) Got grandkids?

61 Days of Summer

I've had a great time this summer with my goal of taking photos daily. It has helped me to enjoy life each and every day and has greatly increased my ability to use my camera and lenses. However, all good things must come to an end. Day 61 was my last day. Before the beginning of school on Aug. 11th and the popular portrait and wedding season leading up to Christmas there are things that need to be attended to. I've been planning a new website since the spring, I've been letting the medical receipts pile up and they need to be submitted, I have photo files scattered all over my hard drive that need to be organized, and on and on... The "tyranny of the urgent!" The blog entries will become much less frequent now.

I sent some of my favorite images, and some of the ones that received the most comments, to Lulu.com yesterday for publishing in a 2009 calendar. I ordered my copy to check for quality before posting the information, but here's a sneak peak at the cover:

One of the undone things on my summer list is selling this old wardrobe. Anybody in the River Region interested?

This is a Child...

Yesterday was Elijah's dedication at church. The pastor always reminds, "This is a child that God created and Jesus died for." Such a precious reminder!

Summer Snaps 59

There's nothing like a sprinkler on a hot, summer day! I had so much fun watching my two granddaughters play today. What a special summer memory!

Sweet Edward's Three-Month Session

Is this not one of the cutest things you've ever seen!?! When I saw the basket of toys in Edward's nursery, I knew we had to get a photo of him in the middle. He was so cooperative and sweet.

Here are a few more of my favorites from Edward's three-month portrait session yesterday:

I love to pop on the wide angle lens and get a few of the baby in his/her nursery at three months. I think it makes for such sweet memories later when they've outgrown the nursery:

Sweet sister, Brooke, and her dog Bigun (sp?). Brooke was an extremely capable and helpful assistant during the session yesterday. Thanks, Brooke!

We didn't get to finish our session yesterday because of the unexpected rain. So, you'll see some more of Edward sometime next week.

Summer Snaps 58

The cicadas have been abundant this summer. Unfortunately, one met its demise in the birdbath last night. I was fascinated with the way the morning light shone through its wings. I took these with the Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro lens and two Kenko extension tubes -- 12mm and 36mm.

Before coming in I took a few snaps of some nearby Shamrocks.

Congratulations to Heather & Jason

It has taken me much longer than usual to post this sneak peak of images from Heather & Jason's beautiful wedding held July 12th at Dalraida Baptist Church. The reason: Lori (my photography associate) and I ended up with approximately 1500 keepers from the wedding and reception!! Every time I tried to pick a few of my favorites I got overwhelmed with all the ones I just loved! I made myself sit here this morning and pick out 15 (help me out here, math people - that's like 1% of the images that are going to be uploaded to their gallery, right?) to upload today.

Heather had the most attentive bridesmaids and the cutest flower girl ever!

Dalraida Baptist is just beautiful and Pastor Rick did a wonderful job of conducting the service.

The wedding party took a fun ride on the trolley to the reception, making a quick stop for a few photos:

The reception was held at the RSA Terrace.

Summer Snaps 57

I admit, we've had a beautiful summer in Alabama. Today was the first day I've been out and seen haze and oppressive heat. I was near despair wondering if I would be able to photograph anything for the summer snaps. I wandered back into the office to get my camera and head outdoors when I saw my husband's African Violets. Yea! I found something pretty without venturing out into the heat and haze!

At three months, Elijah has serious conversations about how good he is and smiles regularly. I snapped these on his visit yesterday.
